History & Proceedings

WIPlay (Workshop on Interaction and Player Research in Game Development) has a rich history of fostering collaboration and disseminating cutting-edge research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and game development. Since its creation, WIPlay has provided a valuable platform for researchers, practitioners, and students to share their work, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections. A key part of WIPlay’s mission is to ensure that the research presented at the workshop reaches a broad audience through high-quality publications. Our primary venues for publication are the SBC OpenLib (SOL) and the Journal on Interactive Systems (JIS), both initiatives of the Brazilian Computing Society – Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (SBC).

In 2025, WIPlay had its first international edition and was held as part of the 20th IFIP TC13 International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, and published as part of the Springer Link book series Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS, volume 2623).

WIPlay has been held since 2019, each time in conjunction with the Simpósio Brasileiro sobre Fatores Humanos em Sistemas Computacionais (IHC), the Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems.

WIPlay Publication Venues

The SBC OpenLib (SOL) is a digital library maintained by the Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (SBC), whose main objective is to enable access to specialized information in Computer Science, serving the community of researchers and professionals in the area.

SOL provides access to all content produced by the SBC, including the articles selected and presented at events held or supported by the SBC, the articles selected for publication in the SBC journals, and the technical or didactic books released by Editora SBC.

The Journal on Interactive Systems (JIS) (ISSN: 2763-7719) is an open-access journal published by the Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (SBC) that focuses on the design, development, evaluation, and use of interactive computing systems (CiteScoreTracker 2024 = 1.1, available in the Scopus database). JIS has a strong connection to the WIPlay community, as extended versions of selected best papers from each WIPlay edition are often invited for publication in JIS. This provides an opportunity for WIPlay authors to further disseminate their research to a wider audience and to contribute to the ongoing discourse on interactive systems. JIS welcomes original research, case studies, surveys, and new ideas across a broad spectrum of technical areas relevant to the WIPlay community, including human-computer interaction, game design, virtual reality, and web media.

Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) is a Springer Nature Link series devoted to the publication of proceedings of computer science conferences. It aims to efficiently disseminate original research results in informatics in printed and electronic form. While the focus is on publication of peer-reviewed full papers presenting mature work, inclusion of reviewed short papers reporting on work in progress is welcome, too. Besides globally relevant meetings with internationally representative program committees guaranteeing a strict peer-reviewing and paper selection process, conferences run by societies or of high regional or national relevance are also considered for publication.
